GET REWARDED FOR NOT USING YOUR PHONE



Feeling distracted by your phone? Want to be more focused in university, beat procrastination or simply disconnect to study?


There’s an App that tackles digital addition by rewarding users for not using their phone. 







You can now earn points for not using your smartphone and use them to grab free coffees and cinema tickets. There’s a solution to smartphone addiction and it’s the Hold App. The app was launched in Norway and is targeted at university students, which rewards you for not letting your smartphone distract you.
The app was launched in the UK on Thursday and as part of the launch, it announced its partnership with Vue Entertainment, Costa Coffee, Amazon, Planet Organic, Jabees, Onepiece, FlowMotion and organic. It also partners with 170 universities in the UK.

How does the Hold app work?
University students using the Hold app can gather points for every 20 minutes they do not use their smartphone. The points can be gotten between the hours of 7am – 11pm, as it detects your bedtime.
These points can be used to get Amazon vouchers up to £50, free regular popcorn at Vue, free Coffee at Costa, etc.

Things to note!
  • This App is only available for university students in Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

  • You need to have a Facebook account to use this app… ermm yes, Facebook.

  • You get 10 points for every 20 minutes you do not use your phone.
  • It verifies that you’re a student when trying to covert points to rewards.

  • The app gives you few seconds to get back quickly if it is minimized. 
  • Android users cannot trick the app by using a split screen.

How to use
-          Download the Hold app on your iOS or Android
-          Connect with Facebook, grant all necessary permissions and read the terms and ..never mind.

-          Go to your profile tab and select your University from the list


-          That’s all! Then tap to HOLD!

My Experience
-          I put my phone on HOLD for 60 minutes and accumulated 30 points. I found it intriguing because I could see notifications pop-up, but I couldn’t just reply.  


-          I converted my points to qualify for a scratch and win Amazon voucher, I was (un)lucky and won £1 amazon voucher.


The HOLD app is available to download on iOS or Android.
