I DITCHED MY GALAXY S8 FOR AN IPHONE 7!!!
Welcome to Everything Fortune. 😀 This is my first post of 2018 and I'd be publishing articles biweekly. 😎
It will
please some of you to know that I almost titled this article ‘The return of an
apple fan boy’. Do not be misguided, this article is not being written
from an Apple fan boy’s perspective. As a mobile phone lover, I’m open to any mobile operating system.
This would
be a brief and precise article.
Let us cut the chase and jump straight to the point.
Here’s why I ditched the 2017 flagship from Samsung for a 2016 iPhone 7.
1. USER EXPERIENCE
Emotions while using an android and apple
device cannot be the same. User
experience is not about OLED display, bezel-less screens and mouth-watering features. Android is yet to catch up on deeply understanding
what users need and value.
As a Galaxy S8 user, I never used half of
S8 exciting features. Opening an application on an Apple device is a lot smoother and responsive. From time to time, I noticed minor lags while opening
applications on the S8.
Well, the brand and design elements of
apple devices invoke emotion and appreciation. Apple
does so well to minimize the user’s memory load by making options more visible. The S8
comes with a refined TouchWiz known as ‘Samsung Experience’ which has bloatware
and forces the user to remember
information from one part of the dialogue to another.
In addition to that, I’m in love with the
taptic engine on the iPhone 7. It brings a world of force feedback sensations
to users. The haptic user interface feedback was also implemented by Snapchat
developers when selecting the time limit for a snap. The iPhone 7 is capable of outputting louder sound as it features two speakers that are capable of producing true stereo output.
2. CAMERA
QUALITY
Yes, the camera quality. Even with the 8
megapixels with auto focus and an f/1.7 lens of the front-facing camera claimed to be a complete revamp, the saturation in pictures
are alarming. It fails to capture little details and goes ahead to include a
beauty mode which has no option to be turned off.
Honestly, I would choose the 1.2 megapixel
of the iPhone 5s over any Samsung’s front facing camera. The upgraded 7
megapixels front-facing camera on the iPhone 7 features a f/2.2 aperture with
auto image stabilisation and takes more detailed and crisp picture than the Galaxy
S8 in my opinion.
3. REGULAR SOFTWARE UPDATES
Apple updates the iPhones for up to 5 years
after release. The iPhone 5s that was released in 2012 got the iOS 11 update
last year September 2017. Android Oreo was released last year August 2017 and
is yet to hit the Galaxy S8. Android manufactures do not provide long term
support for their devices.
4. BETTER APPLICATIONS
The App store has a higher proportion of
quality apps, thanks to the approval process. Consumers are more willing to
fork over their money for an iOS app because they know that they would get
their money’s worth. There is a safe community that people trust, as they’re
more accustomed to the App store’s payment process.
Apple’s higher quality standards mean that
people trust the App store apps to be free of malicious codes. There is no
guarantee of quality or safe app on the Google play store. The average android
app takes more time to develop than its iOS counterpart. This leads to
outsourced and low-quality development since developers charge more for Android
apps.
The problem is further complicated when you
realise that lots of Android devices exist. Optimising apps for screen sizes,
resolutions and device-specific features for each of them. This is the life of
an Android developer.
The applications on my iPhone 7 run
smoothly than on my Galaxy S8. I noticed several lags while using applications
like Snapchat. Talking about Snapchat, the front-facing camera on most Android
devices take pictures with inferior quality. From a little research about this,
Snapchat developers only have to consider a few Apple devices while for
Android, there are hundreds of different phones – with different screen sizes,
running different versions of Android software.
I would be releasing a more
detailed article on Android’s Snapchat quality in the upcoming weeks.
I want to send a message across to Android
fan boys that talk about iPhones not being customisable. Ever heard of the term
Jailbreaking? Heard of Cydia? Blackra1n? JailbreakMe 3.0? We’ve grown up and
gotten worn out of adding features that are not supposed to be or changing
themes that make texts hard to see. We just want something that works! This is
why you should always choose an iPhone! 💪
Very well written with an overall strong argument. However, talking a bit more on IOS customization, is Jailbreak something i could mess around with on IOS 11.2.5?
ReplyDeleteThank you Enoch for commending the article. I can't confirm if jailbreak is fully available on iOS 11.2.5 but be assured that the Jailbreak Developers Community are on it. Do subscribe to our blog to learn when it would be released to the public.

ReplyDeleteSmart talk... I was once an android team player till I was shown the light. On the matter of customization on iPhone - jailbreaking can be termed illegal by Apple else why patch it when a jailbreak come out
ReplyDeleteThank you Dami for commending the article.
