WHY DOES SNAPCHAT SUCK ON ANDROID
The Snapchat app has always been a horrendous lag-fest on Android. You can’t say that you’ve used Snapchat on both Android
and iOS and not noticed that the experience is not the same. Snapchat
offers a smoother experience on the iPhone, despite having the same user
interface on both platforms. Snapchat on Android is buggy and slow with
inferior video and photo quality even though many Android phones now come with
a camera that can give Apple a run for their money.
ISSUES
·
Snapchat takes inferior photos with the
front-facing camera
·
Recording a video is slow and buggy and often
crashes
·
Snapchat freezes and stutters when taking
pictures
·
It takes forever to open the Application
·
Using certain filters make the Application lag
·
It overheats the devices and forecloses
·
The overall user experience while interacting with
the app is poor
WHAT DOES
SNAPCHAT HAVE TO SAY?
Despite all
the criticism that Snapchat’s Android app has received on various platforms,
they’ve done nothing to improve it over the years. Turns our there’s a reason
for that and here’s what Snapchat’s IPO filing reveals – The app is more
popular on iOS devices in spite Android devices being more popular.
WHAT COULD
BE THE RESULT OF THIS?
Snapchat has
prioritised development of their products to operate with iOS operating systems
rather than smartphones with Android operating system. If smartphones with
Android operating systems become more popular and fewer people use iOS
operating systems, their business could be seriously harmed.
THE UGLY
TRUTH
There is
fragmentation in Android devices as they come with different versions of
Android, screen size and hardware capabilities. Certain mid/low range Android
devices do not support Snapchat’s implementation for flagships.
WHAT DO I
THINK?
Snapchat’s
optimisation for several selected android devices such as the Google Pixel
proves that it can run perfectly well on Android and utilise the camera
correctly. It is easier optimising their application for iOS devices because
it’s a single operating system with one manufacturer and only few devices to be considered. Using the front camera on
the Snapchat application is better because iPhones do not have different camera
hardware unlike Android devices.
I
feel Snapchat should consider more Android devices such as Samsung,
Sony, HTC and OnePlus for optimisation.
THE GOODNEWS
Previously,
Android users have been treated like second-class citizens from Snap’s
development team. Snapchat is starting to realise that its app is getting
popular on Android devices as it is on iOS and certain frustrated users are
being forced to uninstall it and make due with Instagram stories.
They would
be forced to work with more Android hardware manufacturers in order improve the
user experience.
